Okay, just under four hours later, here it is...
Have fun! I look forward to the results.

Nice site and concept. It's throwing exceptions...
James Tauber on Feb. 10, 2007:
If it throws exceptions on a legitimate URL, there's a good chance I was just updating the site when you hit it. I've been doing lots of incremental deployments over the last 12 hours and I've just gone ahead and killed the server for about 30 seconds each time.

It would be nice if the "Cats and Dogs" title was a link to the main page.
Also, I think you might be on the minority side of the following:
colour vs black-and-white
pretty vs plain
(Yes, I know you prefer 'busy' to 'boring' ;-)
Tim on Feb. 11, 2007:
BTW, since it allows a user to answer the same question multiple times, won't the data get skewed to people who play for longer?
James Tauber on Feb. 11, 2007:
Regarding plain black-and-white versus pretty colour, I figured I get the functionality first and can always add gradient fills and rounded corners later :-)
Regarding users answering the same question multiple times - you're absolutely right that it biases the data towards the preferences of people who play multiple sessions. I might use cookies to reduce this, but I'm reluctant to make people sign up.
dbt on Feb. 12, 2007:
How about a second opt-out -- "already answered" in addition to "no opinion"
James Tauber on Feb. 12, 2007:
Actually, I've implemented cookies now and it seems to work great. As the number of questions increases, I don't trust people to remember whether they've answered the question before or not.

You have seen http://likebetter.com/, right?
In some ways I like this better, because it gives more of a glimpse into the internals.
n[ate]vw on Feb. 15, 2007:
After "playing" more I have to say I like this a _lot_ better, especially the result viewing pages!
James Tauber on Feb. 16, 2007:
I was aware of likebetter.com before I wrote Cats or Dogs. But I like Cats or Dogs better too, and likebetter.com doesn't answer the kinds of questions I wrote Cats or Dogs to answer.

Very nice! Cool idea! I'm reading "The long tail" right now, which mentions the power of mining the collective wisdom -- which is exactly what you're doing :-)
