I'm a 28-year-old who has been composing for over a decade. I have tens of songs that need lyrics and plan to write many more and so am looking for a lyricist to collaborate with. I play piano/keyboards, have a fair bit of MIDI experience and am a fairly decent singer but that doesn't mean I necessarily intend to perform the songs myself - that is something I would work out with the lyricist.
I like a huge range of music from classical to jazz to alternative to electronic but the music I'm looking to collaborate with a lyricist on could best be described as alternative pop with a strong emphasis on melody and bass, frequent use of piano and occasional pop punk, ska and 80s influences. It's upbeat and, hopefully, catchy stuff.
Music I like includes: They Might Be Giants, Giorgio Moroder, Billy Bragg, The Smiths, Cake, The Police, Blink-182, Nik Kershaw, Elvis Costello and many more. Mind you, that doesn't mean that my music sounds anything like them :-)
Sample MIDIs are now online, the fidelity of which will depend on the quality of your sound card or external MIDI system. They should at least give you an idea of whether it's the kind of music you'd like to write lyrics for.
I'm based in Perth, Western Australia, so I'm expecting that collaboration will be predominantly via the Internet.
