The First 100 Quisition Users

A couple of days ago, the number of user accounts on my flashcard site, Quisition, hit 100.

Of those 100 accounts, only 89 were activated. That means 11 people either entered an incorrect email address or never responded to the activation email.

Of those 89, only 72 created a deck for testing and of those 72, only 57 learnt any cards with that deck.

All of this is understandable given the number of people that came to just try it out or see how I'd used Django in a particular way.

The only statistic that really disappoints me is that, of the 57 that started learning cards, only 1 user hasn't currently got any overdue cards to review. And that user is yours truly, so really my user retention is currently 0%.

Oh well, I'll still continue to improve it. It's been a chance for me to learn Django and I have now learnt all the chemical symbols (and will continue to review them with Quisition).

If anyone has an suggestions on how to improve Quisition, email me or leave a comment here.

Hey, my daughter is at the age she needs to learn the alphabet. It'd be nice if you could attach an image (like freeware) instead of a text field.

I want to show a picture of a bee, then have the other side have "B".

Neat tool!

Image support is on its way.

Is there a way to quiz yourself using existing decks without signing up for an account? I think it'd be good to have.

James Tauber on March 4, 2007:

jml, I can offer that, although the main point of the site is long-term testing at optimal intervals, which requires the site to know who you are.

Last time I (thoroughly) tried it I found that if I came back to it after not visiting for a while, that I was swamped with a pile of words to catch up on. I'd rather be tested on a fixed amount of words each session, otherwise it's a time blowout.

(You may well have already fixed this tho...)

I think your website should say what a flashcard is. I was going to try it out but I have no idea what 'flashcards' are.

My daughters will be using Quisition extensively for SAT/ACT prep in combination with a Moodle site I set up for them.

've shown them Quisition and how it works. Over spring break, they will be creating decks for their particular needs.

To get me using it, I really wish your "learned the chemical symbols" was a link to use that deck publicly - I honestly don't have things I think of to quiz on usually, but I'd browse an existing one to see how it works.

And more importantly, if in a month you mentioned how you'd studied/learned something new using quisition, I might be interested enough to browse that too (see how relevant it is to me, gauge quality) and hence see some new functionality (upgrade) and realize I have a use for it now.

(I wrote all of the above without being pulled to click the main link, really the lack of a subject-related link suppressed it that far for me, but now I clicked and I still get no way to play for 5 minutes. I suppose this is the motivation for screencasts.)
